Joonas Widenius (born 1980, Tornio) is a Finnish flamenco and fusion guitarist. He is considered to be one of the most promising flamenco guitarists in Finland. His distinctive style has earned a warm welcome from both the critics and the audiences.
Widenius, who performs actively with his various line-ups, travels around to play, compose and to accompany dancers, singers and performances. He has worked with Perico Sambeat, Iiro Rantala, UMO, Alba Carmona, Petri Kumela, Raoul Björkenheim, Ilkka Heinonen, Raul Mannola, Kaari Martin, Roni Martin, Katja Lunden, Oulu All Star Big Band, Niko Kumpuvaara, Pope Puolitaival, Jukka Eskola, Risto Toppola, Kirsi Poutanen, Hannu Rantanen, Karo Sampela, Enver Ismael, David Dominguez and many others. He has visited Pori Jazz, Stockholm, Västerås, St. Petersburg, Gothenburg, Jyväskylä Summer Festival, the flamenco festivals in Helsinki, Tampere and Oulu, Rauma Summer Jazz, Elojazz, Raahen Rantajazz and the music video festival in Oulu, at the Stallet club in Stockholm, the folk dance festival Jutajaiset at Rovaniemi, and at various other dance festivals, clubs and concert halls around.
